2017 ended with my posting of a holiday blog and making a commitment to write at least twice a month in 2018. I sat down and wrote the first and posted it. Yay off to a good start. I can’t say what happened, but it is now June and I have not posted twice a month. I just heard someone say “if you think it then ink it.” I have had many thoughts and jot daily notes to myself so what has been the hold up. I know that there is something to learn from every act of procrastinating and from every broken promise.
Excuse #1: I have plenty of time while time dances and prances all around me and as I look up six months has passed. Even while writing this, I made the excuse that blogging is not essential to being a good coach and who has time to go on a website to read a blog.
Lesson #1: I coach clients on setting goals, taking action, and manifesting their dreams. How can I be so clear about helping others to do what they want, and I have not written nor posted my blogs. True, blogging is not essential to being a good coach, but it was something I said I wanted to do on a regular basis. If my goal is to serve and make a difference in the lives of people, and if they by chance happen to find my blog, there may be one simple idea that turns on the lightbulb. Wow. That’s something to think about. All of a sudden writing a blog no longer becomes a chore for me but a way to make a more meaningful difference. There is energy around that idea that I can use to propel me.
Excuse #2: No one knows my promise but me.
Lesson #2: I am the most important person to myself and if I let myself down how can I expect anyone else to do what they say they are going to do for or with me.
Excuse #3: I don’t have time because I am doing so many things.
Lesson #3: I may be doing a lot of things. However, have I examined whether all the things I am doing is important and is there something I can take off my plate to make room once or twice a month to write and post my blog. Perhaps twice a month was too much to begin and so I will try once a month to get my flow going.
What excuses are you making in your life that leads to your procrastinating? Once you address them and take on what it is that you said you want to do, you can experience a sense of accomplishment and completion. This can be very rewarding.
My fellow procrastinators, what are your excuses? Write them down and ask yourself what can I learn from the excuses I have created? Is there another story that is more positive that you can focus on or some other “Yes” actions that you can take?
There is a reward from taking action on something you said you want to do. I am experiencing an exhilaration just by writing this. Please go to my website each month and see if I have added a post and if not wag your finger at me.
As for you who this blog speaks to, take the time to reflect and answer the questions on what are your excuses and what have you learned from them. Take a bold step and send your answers to my email Cynthia@missingpeacecoaching.com . The first 3 emails I get will receive a complimentary consultation session with me. Congratulations for taking action.
