More about Cynthia
First and foremost a cheerleader, I have been called a cheerleader by many. Perhaps because when I have had cheerleaders along my journey, I began seeing my bigger picture and found myself focusing on possibilities and opportunities and then the finish line and what it took to get there. My cheerleaders were not only my champions but they saw something in me that I was not seeing. They supported me in removing my blinders and my vision and perspective broadened significantly.
I know that I am not the only person who has needed a cheerleader, nor the only person who produced more efficiently with that kind of support. The higher you climb the more rarefied the air and it becomes even more important to have a trusted partner and collaborator who is there solely for YOU.
I am now that trusted partner. I infuse light and clarity in every coaching session so you can discover and then embrace what you want to uncover. I also invite you to listen deeply to your intuitive inner voice and provide you with a healthy dose of challenges along with the occasional firm push forward. This way, you can unravel the mystery of what’s calling to you, overcome your deep-seated doubts and make steady progress towards achieving your ultimate goal.
Is this a kind of support that is calling to you? (Or is this a kind of support system that is calling your name?)
In the early 1970s, Cynthia became the first African American woman to join the William Morris Talent Agency as an agent trainee and then went on to become an agent in the New York office.
As an agent, I learned to use my voice for myself as well as for my clients. I learned the power of trusting my instincts and making “things “happen. After a rich and fulfilling experience at William Morris, I opened my own boutique talent agency, The Robinson Company, in Los Angeles. During my 16 year career as a talent agent, I helped numerous actors, writers and directors in New York and Los Angeles realize their dreams through my clear guidance, boundless enthusiasm and knack for making savvy, life-changing connections.
“Clients working with Cynthia began to value their choices and
become the leaders they were destined to be.”
I have many favorite stories from that period of my life. One was helping my friend Alex Haley. While going to lunch with Patricia, his fiancé who was also assisting him with his work, I encountered Television executive producer David Wolper who was a client at the office (William Morris). I made introductions and told David about the book Alex was writing. I brought Patricia into the conversation. Not only was David Wolper interested, but he called my office to let me know that he wanted to get a copy. When David declared his interest, I stayed on Alex to complete his work enough to get something to David Wolper. That project was the miniseries ROOTS.
Another favorite story was helping Lee Daniels, director of The Butler and Precious (which earned six Academy Award nominations including Best Director), and creator and executive director of Empire.
I helped Lee step away from the successful nursing agency he owned and shift into an entry-level casting agent position to fulfill a bigger dream which was to manage talent and subsequently produce film and television shows ―At a 2015 pre- Academy Awards event, Lee invited me to the stage to honor my encouragement and determination to help him launch his dream career. When he was honored in Time Magazine 100 he acknowledged my support. (Read about their relationship here and here.)
Cynthia lived what she now coaches.
After leaving my successful entertainment industry career to be a full-time mother to my two sons I found a way to give to my family and to my community. I joined the American Cancer Society to raise cancer awareness through training, workshops, and seminars. Though my work was meaningful, a new spark was calling―but what? Then, in a transformative moment, I received The Purpose Driven Life, a book that changed my life! Excited by what I learned but still without answers, I began working with a gifted coach and soon discovered my God-given purpose―to serve others by helping them find their truth and innate talents so they activate their full, extraordinary potential.
I completed my coach training with the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching and Lisa Bloom Story Coaching. And in my book, It’s Your Turn: Uncovering the Best You NOW, I provide mesmerizing stories and life lessons as I guide you the reader through powerful exercises that can help you live life to the fullest. I consider my book an entry-level to working with you.
Cynthia has also been recognized for sharing her goodwill, time, and talents. I have been featured in Huffington Post, was a grant reviewer and interviewer for the Ford Foundation Fellowship Program, and a Fellow of the Advocacy Institute in Washington, DC. I received the NAACP Legal Defense Black Women of Achievement Award. For helping Los Angeles area women and girls, I received the Women’s Information Network’s Award of Excellence during their celebration of the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day. City Club Los Angeles awarded me with the Women of The City Club (LA) Award, and the County of Los Angeles saluted me with its annual Living Legends Award for my community leadership. I highlight these recognitions to share with you my commitment to work in the nonprofit arena, community involvement as well as in the corporate and business sector.
I live in Sherman Oaks, California. I am passionate about traveling, fine dining as well as local cuisines, art in all forms, dancing, hiking, and yoga. I love spending time with my husband, Nigerian-born kidney specialist Dr. Olu Oredugba, and my kids, grandkids, and many friends. I bring all of what I love and who I am to my work with you.
