Walk For Water

My family made the commitment to walk with me for a fundraiser for Samburu Project.  The night before I start receiving messages that they didn’t really want to have to get up so early on a Sunday morning to participate in the walk.  My one son said okay I will go with not much enthusiasm.

The morning of the walk I woke up not really wanting to get out of my very comfy bed to drive to an area of Los Angeles that I didn’t really know, but I said that I was coming and so I hopped out of bed and got myself ready to participate.  To my surprise my family had changed their mind and showed up to support me.  Thank you family.

The location was a lovely beach community in Los Angeles and the weather could not have been more perfect.  What a way to start a week by getting outside of myself and helping to make a difference in someone else life.  Imagine having to walk 12 miles to get some safe drinking water and carry it back 12 miles.  Some women and girls in Samburu Kenya have to do just that.  The Samburu Water Project began drilling for wells in 2005 and has provided water for over 80,000 people.  My family walking 4 miles along a beautiful beach community to bring about the awareness of the work that is being done and being a part of this initiative woke us up.  Once we realized why we were there our spirit lifted, our stride stretched and our hearts were filled.  The walk was a few days ago, but the financial needs are ongoing.  It is not too late for you to contribute. You can go to www.thesamburuproject.org and there is a tab that says Donate.

When my sister or brother is without, I too am without.  So let us out find ways to reach out and give.  Make it a family affair.  The world will be better because we all are keepers for our world family.
