The Gift Of Lifting Up Others

I recently visited my friend, Lee. There is nothing like being with a friend that you have known for years and whenever you see one another it is filled with laughter and the joy of being able to let your hair down and share. Well for three days we did that and I was rejuvenated, replenished, and overjoyed.

In one of our chats my friend said that he was looking for a new assistant. He shared that his current assistant had worked for him for four years and he knew it was time to let him spread his wings and soar. Not only was he recognizing the value of his assistant but he arranged for his new position. I sat there with pride for my friend that his generous spirit was big enough to give someone us their glory. Even though this person could finish his sentences and knew just how he wanted everything done, he recognized that he was ready for new opportunities. It takes confidence in who you are to give someone else their space to blossom.

I salute you my dear friend, Lee Daniels, and am writing this so others can read your story and find ways to give space to colleagues, family and friends. When you see someone else’s growth, continue to lift them up. It doesn’t take anything away from you. Actually it only adds to your greatness.

Thank you for sharing your greatness with me so that I can share it with others. You may have been nominated for the Oscars, Golden Globe and other film awards but I am presenting you with The Humankind Award for your generosity of spirit and lifting up another so that he could shine.

Let’s make this summer a time for promotions and lifting up others. Celebrate someone worthy with a Humankind Award
