Monday is always such a tough day for me going to the gym. I think my weekends are filled with too much eating and not enough cardiovascular activity. Monday rolls around and before I even get out of bed I am cringing at the workout that Christiana, the fitness General at my gym will be taking me through. Today was no exception. I found myself huffing and puffing for one hour of weights and aerobics. After she has sufficiently worn every fiber in me out, she generally has us do two sets of burpees for 30 seconds a set. 30 seconds never seem so long as when you are doing burpees .
I begin the class with the thought how can I find the strength to do two sets of burpees. I forgot to say that in the second set you have to do more than the first set. This particular Monday I began dreading going to the gym more than ever because of all of the Holiday festivities I attended over the weekend. As I walked to the gym I was chanting that I would not be a wimp and would embrace the burpees with a smile. As we got to the place in the class when Christiana smiles and says " Ok boys and girls you know the drill....". I waited to hear announce it's burpee time. To my surprise she changed the workout that day and we never did burpees. I had spent considerable time and energy fretting and then working myself up to meet the challenge, only for it to never present itself
How many times have you spent time worrying about something that never presented itself? The worry was more debilitating than the challenge. I resolve from now on to enter my class with enthusiasm that I have a body that works and a trainer that is committed to making me be the best that I can be. When it's burpee time I know to go with the flow.
Thank you Christiana.
