Good Things Are Coming

Good Things Are Coming

Wednesday early morning with the dew on the grass and birds chirping above I attend a yoga class in the park.  Today after our practice a sign caught my attention.

Behind the sign in a fenced area, several tractors were working digging into the soil.  A lovely playground had been in this area where toddlers would come as my class was ending.  My initial thought was why were they digging up and discarding the equipment in the playground.  What are those children going to do?  What could they possibly mean by good things are coming?

Good Things WERE already there

Good things were already there.

The sun sweetly kissed me as I was getting up to prepare to leave.  The thought came to me that the playground was B.C. (before Covid) and the sign Good Things Are Coming is suggesting that sometimes we have to disrupt the status quo if it is no longer serving the many. And consider that it may be time for Change.

I didn’t take the time to observe before whether there was handicap access or whether the equipment was in the need of repair or renewal.  Many factors must have been considered before demolishing what was there.

Many disruptions have occurred recently—Me Too Movement, Black Lives Matter, virtual and hybrid work, new definitions and protocols for Safety, a new meaning for work, virtual celebrations, masks a new and mandatory accessory, covid testing and new hygiene, outdoor dining, hand washing throughout the day while singing Happy Birthday twice, and providing hand sanitizers for anyone who comes to your office or home, and there are more.

With all of the changes that have occurred over the past two years and the changes that we are constantly facing how can we adopt a mindset that Good Things Are Coming.  As I write this, I can hear life in my yard singing a song of exaltation. There are bees that once worried me until the beekeeper came secured my house and positioned the bees to do what they do best, pollinate.  Interestingly my son and his wife were given a lemon tree as a wedding gift.  There was no place for them to plant the tree at their townhouse so they planted the tree in my yard. They have been married five years and now I am just seeing the first lemons.  The last gift from the bees before the beekeeper safely removes the bees to their new home.

My neighbors have opened their hearts and we have developed a community where every neighbor matters.  I have lived here for 16 years and basically only knew the neighbors next door.

Since COVID I now know and appreciate everyone on my street as well as neighbors on two or three adjacent streets.  We have had a string orchestra perform several times on the street as we sat socially distanced enjoying the music.  We have had outdoor cocktail evenings where we spread out but close enough to feel connected and socialize.  This began our having many safe celebrations throughout the time so no one felt isolated.  I now have a new definition for neighborhood and it is so much more fulfilling than before.

I am now open to seeing a tractor upending what I thought was good and preparing myself for whatever is new and finding a way to appreciate that Good Things Are Coming.

How can you look at your life and prepare for the good things that are coming?  Let me hear from you as you open the gates for good things to pour in.
